Study states high temperatures followed by heavy rain could cause £390 million subsidence damage across UK.
Halifax Home Insurance predicts a summer of high temperatures, in the South East in particular, is going to exacerbate the probability of subsidence damage.
In light of this prediction insurance experts advise homeowners check their policy to make sure they are adequately covered.
Halifax spokesman Neil Curling said: "We are encouraging all homeowners to check that their building insurance policy provides adequate cover in case of subsidence."
He also stressed the need for vigilance stating: "If homeowners become concerned about newly sticking doors or windows with cracks developing around the house then we would advise them to contact their insurer immediately. The sooner the problem can be investigated, the sooner and more simply it can be resolved."
